Welcome to Northbrook!
Our History
American Academy of Gymnastics began as a small gym in Des Plaines in 1973 and later relocated to our flagship Wheeling location in 1985. Over the years, AAG has been responsible for developing several international gymnasts, including 1992 U.S. Olympian Chris Waller. American Academy has also graduated gymnasts who have cumulatively earned over $4 million in college scholarships. More than 30 years after the Wheeling location became an established stronghold in the community, American Academy of Gymnastics expanded to a second location in Northbrook in the early fall of 2017.
American Academy of Gymnastics of Northbrook is proud to provide the local community with quality USAG and Xcel Competitive Gymnastics Programs, a constantly growing Tots & Recreational Gymnastics Program, and an accessible and well-equipped space perfect for hosting your birthday party or field trip event!

Our Philosophy
Safety, Growth, Education, & Fun!
We believe in fostering an environment where gymnasts experience Safety, Growth, Education, and Fun. Our primary teaching philosophy focuses on skill progressions through drills. By emphasizing skill-specific drills, repetition, proper technique, and building self-confidence, we ensure that new skills are achieved safely. This coaching style allows students to experience success as they master each drill, rather than solely when a complete skill is attained. This method also enhances self-awareness and resilience, promoting fast and reliable learning in a safe and educational setting.
We are committed to providing a well-rounded physical experience for our gymnasts. We prioritize developing strength, flexibility, technique, coordination, stamina, balance, increased confidence, and overall physical fitness. Our curriculum includes a conditioning and fitness program endorsed by USA Gymnastics.
Our goal is to offer classes that accommodate diverse family schedules and needs. If our currently offered classes do not fit your family's availability, please contact us directly. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule and provide suitable class options for our students.
